Influenced by the depreciation on natural insects, the ‘flower in bloom’ captures a possible world of artificial insects and environment. Using a range of medium (electronic components and hand sculpted clay pieces), a sense of delicacy is portrayed. Thus incorporating an all but subtle message: that the environment is fragile. Freckles of intrusive red are a suggestion of damage and are applied to both present and future; damage will continue to be sustained unless change is made. Leaves are a bowl-like shape and envelope the creature which is, wrapped in copper coils, similar to the flower below.
Tidal Wave
Artist’s Statement
Tidal wave attempts to convey nature’s versatility: through the use of modelling clay and textured paper. The ‘wave’ was made using coiled wire and layered card: whereas the ‘tree’ was constructed using a pentagonal cylinder on clay. Hundreds of hand cut, textured leaves clutter the sculpture portraying the effect of climate on nature: autumn leaves lash the tree when taken by wind. The sculpture was made to highlight the effect of climate change on all aspects of nature, including all from large trees to miniscule insects.
